Canada's upcoming Governor General was announced to be Madame Michaëlle Jean, a refugee from Haiti that grew up in Montreal. While I am a fan of Adrian Clarkson I really do think I'll like Madame Jean even more. She has the sense of class and professionalism as any Governor General should, but Michaëlle had humbler beginnings. It seems her goals are to pay focus to repairing the more damaged areas of society.
Bakcground info for non-Canadians: the Governor General has no real authority in the Canadian Government. It's an appointed constitutional position that represents the Monarch's presense in the Canadian legislature. While her most official capacity is signing bills for royal ascention, the Governor General represents Canada abroad and can affect social change.
Sorry. I just find Canadian politics so completely fascinating.
